Dominik Hempel - Historical Timpani and Percussion

Dominik Hempel is currently studying at the University of Basel and working on various music projects and ensembles. He has gained extensive experience in historical performance practice, including as a participant in the MA Festival Academy 2024 in Bruges. He is intensively involved in the reconstruction of lost or not (fully) notated timpani parts, such as in Handel's Water Music or Porpora's Davide e Bersabea. He is particularly fond of historical works with melodic timpani, such as Graupner's Sinfonia with 6 timpani, as well as the broad spectrum of percussion, from alta capella and oboe band to early harmony music.

Outside of music, he devotes much of his time to restoring and replicating historical percussion instruments.
